Playboy Saying Goodbye To Female Nudity

For those of you who claim to only read Playboy for the articles, soon that is all there will be.

Playboy has announced that it will no longer be featuring nude females in its pages, and instead rolling out a “cleaner, more modern style.” According to the New York Times, Scott Flanders, Playboy’s chief executive, realized Playboy had lost its risque factor thanks to the advent of online pornography.

“You’re one click away from every sex act imaginable for free,” Flanders said. “And so it’s just pase at this juncture.”

While the magazine will still feature PG-13 images, the new and improved Playboy will also feature more content that is safe for work, so it is allowed on social media platforms, increasing web traffic. Last year, Playboy got rid of nudity on its website and saw web traffic jump as well as the age demographics drop.

There will still be a Playmate of the Month, and a sex column, but a change is desperately needed for the company, who makes most of its money from licensing, and loses about $3 million a year from the U.S. edition of its magazine.

Started by Hugh Hefner in 1953, the first magazine cover featured Marilyn Monroe and has since been covered by everyone from Madonna to Naomi Campbell. Playboy has also been a voice for generations with interviews with Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X and Jimmy Carter. Playboy hopes to retain its influence in pop culture, but is adapting to the times.

That little white bunny is not going anywhere anytime soon.
