Rick Owens Models Wear Each Other Down the Runway (and You Won’t Believe the Photos!)

We wonder if there was a fit test required during casting for Rick Owens’ spring/summer 2016 show, because models definitely needed a lot of upper-body strength. The designer, who is known for pushing the envelope on the runway, showcased his new collection in a very unique way … by dressing his models in other models for a one-of-a-kind catwalk experience.

Models hit the runway in a number of neutral bodysuits, cloaks, dresses with major draping and asymmetrical hemlines, and parachute-like jumpsuits. But it was hard to focus on the clothes with the models suspended from other models shoulders, hanging around their necks and clinging to their backs. That’s right, Owens even introduced us to the human backpack. See the best photos below.

Kanye West, Jared Leto, Justin Theroux and Lenny Kravitz are all big fans of Owens’ designs. During his fall/winter 2015 show, he had a strict no-underwear policy on the catwalk. Models hit the stage in earth-tone cloaks and tunics — sans pants — meaning that everything below the belt was hanging free. (The show incited some “Dick Owens” fervor on Twitter.)

But Owens is unapologetic when it comes to his artistic decisions. The designer has revealed in interviews that he likes to stir things up with his radical designs.

“I’m not good at subtlety,” he told Details magazine. “If you’re not going to be discreet and quiet, then just go all the way and have the balls to shave off your eyebrows, bleach your hair, and put on some big bracelets.”
