SB Exclusive: Lisa Price Speaks On Impact Of Miss Jessie’s Co-Founder Titi Branch

On Monday news broke that Titi Branch (above, left with blonde hair), co-founder of Miss Jessie’s haircare company passed away. The indomitable curly haired sister of Miko, was ever-present in advertisements, at events and during styling presentations.

Having founded the company in 2004, the sisters grew their brand from a Brooklyn salon and dream into a multi-million dollar business.

Synonymous with Miss Jessie’s is Carol’s Daughter. In addition to both natural haircare companies being named after relatives, their founders are well-respected and recognized. Both companies have products sold nationwide in drugstores, mega-retailers and online.

Lisa Price, president of Carol’s Daughter, recently merged with L’Oreal USA taking her company to new heights. And like Miss Jessie’s, the move elevated her platform to promote natural beauty. “Titi and her sister Miko grew up with a particular beauty need that was not addressed and after years of ‘making do,’ like so many of us, they decided to ‘get it done’,” Price told StyleBlazer exclusively.

Price and her contemporaries are often credited for pushing the movement for African American women to wear their hair natural. Frankly, before Carol’s Daughter and Miss Jessie’s, there weren’t a ton of options. Aware of this, Price was candid about Branch’s impact.

“Though, technically our brands are competitors, I have always viewed them as ‘sisters’ in this beauty world. They have made an indelible mark on this industry and I am sure Miko will continue to do so. Though I can only imagine that doing this without her sister will be challenging for her, Titi will be beside Miko in spirit and the rest of us out here in this business will be there to hold her up. It is what we must do. No one does this alone.”
