Suki Waterhouse: I Cut My Hair a Lot – and I’m Always Terrible at It!

Being around hair and makeup pros almost every day, supermodels learn a bunch of cool tricks — and probably get a false sense of confidence about their own abilities. Suki Waterhouse confesses she is prone to that line of thinking occasionally.

“I cut my own hair a lot … and I’m always terrible at it!” she tells PEOPLE. “Literally, thank God for my hair and makeup teams! Whenever I look half decent in a picture it’s always thanks to them.”

Somehow, we doubt it. Waterhouse, who’s adding “Redken muse” to her impressive modeling résumé (check out a first look at the campaign above and below!), does admit that she has internalized some fun stuff from sets, including the decision to use the brand’s Glow Dry blow dry oil “on damp hair and then blowdry it in. It really makes my hair really silky and shiny,” she says. “I’ve learned a lot about beauty contouring from Charlotte Tilburry and Wendy Rowe. Also, I love using Vaseline in small places like under my brows, eyelids and cheek bones. Just for a little bit of sheen!”

Not that she’s complaining when she gets to do cool things like partner with Redken on the Glow Dry ads. “Redken is really open to collaborating. It’s not just being a model on set. They are open to your ideas and experimenting with you,” she says, saying her favorite look is a ’60s-inspired one you’ll see in an upcoming campaign. “I felt on top of the world. I’ve never seen my hair look that good!”

So her hair inspires tons of us “regular girls” — but whose locks give a supermodel tress envy? “For red carpet, glamorous hair, I really like Sienna Miller. She has really great thick hair and able to do so much to it. I also love Marion Cotillard. Emma Stone has really great hair and a cute cut,” she says, adding that Miller and Kate Hudson have her favorite color.

And she tells PEOPLE she’d love to experiment with her hair if her job didn’t require her to look like, well, the below picture all the time. “I really would like an undercut. I would love to try it all,” she says. “Dye it pink! I always wonder what I would look like if I wasn’t modeling. I would be able to change it so much.”
