The (Style) Streets Are Talking: Jhené Aiko Basks In The Complex Sun

Los Angeles-based singer Jhené Aiko has been generating buzz for some time now, so fans were very excited to see her on the April/May cover of Complex magazine.

For the shoot done by Marcus Hyde, the “From Time” singer went to the Rockhouse Hotel in Negril, Jamaica and modeled some stylish swimwear. She’s currently on Drake’s “Would You Like a Tour?” while working on her first studio album “Souled Out.” And while she’s tiny in stature, the 26-year-old is solid in mind dropping some serious dimes of knowledge.

For the interview she talks about her career trajectory, being a young mom and the loss of her brother. She also gets candid about dating in the industry.

On the meaning of Namiko Love (child of the wave), her daughter’s name: “There’s no such thing as birth and death because the wave cannot die; it’s all water. Things manifest when the conditions are right, and they don’t manifest when they’re not right. But there are no ends, no beginnings, just continuation.”

On her love of the sun: “Throughout the ages, humankind has worshiped the sun in some type of way, That energy is the reason we’re here, why our planet is what it is.”

On being single and her dating philosophy: “I’m about to give you…not a bulls**t answer. There is, but I’m single. Not by choice. Only because I found now that when I talk to guys, they’re wary because they know about Donald [Glover], they know I’ve worked with Drake. They’re always side-eyed, suspicious. But I’m loyal in relationships. If I’m your girlfriend, that’s it. I’m practicing to be your wife at that point because I treat it seriously. I feel like I was born to be a mom and a wife and totally domesticated. I’m not going to spend my time trying to prove that I am really who I say I am.”
