From Serena William’s record setting tennis wins to Misty Copeland’s ballet triumph and the rise of teenage activist Amandla Stenberg, black girl magic is on fleek, with no signs of slowing down. This month brings us an unusually high number of September Issues featuring women of color.

Earlier this week, Scandal siren Kerry Washington flaunted her slender physique on the cover of Self and of course–plenty of “yas” commentary. In regards to her body after baby, the actress is ready to nix the “post-baby” and “pre-baby” terms once and for all.

I feel like you’re back.’ She meant it as a total compliment, but we had this great conversation where I was like, ‘You know what? I try really hard not to use that language, because it’s not about going backward in life,’” she shared.

“I’ve been really focused on not being ‘back’ to anything, but being the best version of myself right now. My body is the site of a miracle now. I don’t want to be pre-miracle.”
