Last Friday, the United States Customs Department seized 10,788 counterfeit Gucci and Coach handbags in Miami.

As we reported last week, Michael Kors has already attempted to stop the bootlegging in New York by going after landlords who house counterfeit artists. According to the statement released by officials, the estimated retail value of these items calculate up to $4.9 million.

A separate bust happened last Friday, as well, where authorities procured more than 860 counterfeit Ray-Ban sunglasses in Tampa, Florida. The approximate retail value of this seizure was $123,455. Authorities claim that the sunglasses were shipped to Tampa from China.

“Intellectual property rights are invaluable to innovation, investment and economic development,” Paula Rivera, Acting Tampa Area Port Director, said. “Our CBP officers and import specialists are committed to preventing counterfeit goods from entering the commerce of the United States.”

As China and Hong Kong continuously rank at the top as source countries for counterfeit goods, the CBP and U.S. Immigration department, alongside the Homeland Security department, seize at least $3.4 million in counterfeit goods on a typical day around the country. Last year alone, the CBP made more than 23,000 seizures of counterfeit goods worth an estimated $1.2 billion.
