Velvet fashion has the transcendent quality of transporting you to another time.

Draping yourself in a velvet dress always evokes the Renaissance, and the ornate and lavish lifestyle of royalty from years past. Pull on some velvet boots, you are in the swinging ’70s, channeling your inner rock star. Well, lucky for us, the fall and spring runways have been full of period influenced designs, including a touch of velvet.

Velvet has a way of dressing up anything from distressed denim to mini skirts. The fabric, rich and warming, is perfect for the cooler weather, and thanks to bold hues such as burgundy and sapphire, it is the best way to add a pop of color to your outfit.

May Jagger rocked a Sonia Rykiel jumpsuit at the premiere of Pan recently, and while her jumpsuit maybe out of our budget, that doesn’t mean you can’t rock velvet like the model Brit.

Whether you want to go full Velvet Underground, or just add a touch of the fabric for some texture, there is more than one way to rock the trend. We found velvet pieces everywhere from ASOS to Topshop, and we have definitely added it to our fall shopping list.
