While the fashion industry still has a long way to go in terms of diversity, Vogue, one of the most traditional fashion magazines in the publication industry, has managed to double its cover diversity by featuring four covers starring people of color as opposed to two in 2013.

While those numbers are nowhere near good enough, if you compare it to 2012 and 2011 where they featured approximately one person of color on a cover within the calendar year, it’s actually a huge step in the right direction. Rihanna, Lupita Nyong’o, Kanye West, and model Joan Smalls all graced the cover this year. Although West and Smalls appeared in group shots, their presence was still felt.

In 2013, Beyonce and Michelle Obama both got their own spot on the cover, and in 2012, Rihanna and Serena Williams were featured.
