VPL’s Ballerina Project Video Look Book Is Totally On Pointe

One of the best aspects of video look books is that they provide you with a chance to see how the clothes move in real life rather than the flat–though often beautiful–composition of the look books we see most often. That movement aspect is key in the newest video look book from activewear label VPL, who teamed up with The Ballerina Project on seven videos that showcase the brand’s Resort 2015 collection.

VPL is known for it’s fashionable active wear, but recently converted the line to a “fashion active label,” the designer Victoria Bartlett told Style.com. The difference being that now the line is meant to do double duty–it’s great for a barre class, but can work easily well at an after-class drink. A lack of logos and ticking stripes, as well as other typical athletic wear elements, allows for this type of versatility. “It’s this concept of a double shelf life, where you can wear these to exercise, then wear them out. Women want to look good and feel good now, and there’s kind of a revolution happening,” she said.

It’s a revolution that has women and men looking to new ways of working out–be it barre, indoor rowing, trampolining, etc–and looking for activewear that will fit their choices. Barlett chose to collaborate with The Ballerina Project–a long-standing photography series shot by Dane Shitagi–to show just how well the clothes performed on the bodies of the incredible ballet dancers. “I wanted to take out the traditional context of lookbooks and make the looks customized for each mini performance. It was about seeing the clothes in motion, which is an important aspect of the entire collection.” said Barlett.

The result is a seven-part short video series that will undoubtedly make you regret quitting ballet in fifth grade, but it will also surely make you a VPL fan if you aren’t already.
