Wet Seal Employees Fired After Being Laid Off

There are fails and then there are double fails. The type of fails that don’t settle right with you, they linger.

Three Seattle women are dealing with this after being fired from Wet Seal after being laid off.

Here’s the deal: Andrea Friesner who worked at a Northgate Mall location, and her two associates were laid off when it was announced their branch would be closing. Pissed for having worked there for eight years, Friesner and the two employees posted a sign of their grievances in the window of the store. Among them were unused vacation and sick time, denial of transfer requests and financial hardship “but CFO receives $95,000 raise.”

Upon the district director finding out about the sign and exchanging words with Friesner, her and the two employees involved were promptly fired. Yes, after being laid off.

“[I wasn’t] seeing the writing on the wall,” Friesner said about the store closing. “I didn’t know someone could be fired after being laid off. I wanted to see it through to the end. I wanted to finish it out. I had that taken away from me.”

We, however, did see the writing on the wall as Wet Seal alluded to bankruptcy last month, reporting a net loss of $36 million last November and owing a creditor $27 million.

All around it’s a sucky situation, we just hope this doesn’t continue as the retailer closes more doors.
