We get so caught up in current trends and collections that consideration for the past is overlooked.

As a way of bringing fashion into perspective, London and Milan will be home to two new exhibitions opening this spring/summer. The first, in London, will be at The Bowes Museum honoring Yves Saint Laurent.

Curated by the Fondation Pierre Bergé-Yves Saint Laurent, the retrospective is entitled “Yves Saint Laurent: Style is Eternal” and will feature over 50 pieces from YSL. “The Fondation Pierre Bergé-Yves Saint Laurent is committed to the promotion of the work of Yves Saint Laurent internationally, and as such it is extremely exciting to work on this first exhibition in the UK,” said Bergé, Saint Laurent’s partner and the head of the foundation.

“The Bowes Museum is a natural destination given its exceptional work with fashion and textiles; the museum and its location also clearly reflects Saint Laurent’s, and my own, passion for inspiring, timeless places. It is the perfect setting for us – a museum built as a French chateau, in the age of the Second Empire.”

Since Saint Laurent’s passing in 2008, there’s been consistent effort to keep the iconic designer’s legacy alive. In 2014 there were two documentaries released based on his life story –only one was given Bergé’s stamp of approval.

We’re looking forward to seeing how he immortalizes YSL through this exhibit open July 11 to Oct 25.

Following along the same lines, Giorgio Armani is using space in Milan to make a permanent exhibit to his work.

As reported by British Vogue:

The space – a former Nestlé factory in Milan known as Silos Armani – will host a permanent exhibition of Armani’s archive designs and sketches, as well as his new head office and external exhibitions. “This project has been in my mind for so long,” Armani told WWD. “I maintained the name Silos because I like it. It contained food, which you need for life, just as wearing clothes is part of life.”

Armani’s exhibit is due to open April 30.
