Charlynn is Naturally Glam!

My name is Charlynn, but everyone calls me Char. I decided to go natural on accident. I wanted to ween myself off of weaves and I wanted to cut my broken off hair because it was mad see through. I got a perm when I cut my hair and then it hit me that cutting my hair and perms didn’t make sense for my over all goal. I did without the perm and I’m still here today to discuss it. I survived!

How long have you been natural?
Since May 25, 2012

What motivated you to transition? Were you a transitioner or a Big Chopper& why?
I transitioned and then I eventually cut off the straight pieces after 3 months.

How would you describe your hair?
It’s not as long as I would like it to be, but it’s healthy and that’s the most important key for me. I believe my hair is curly and spongey but not too spongey.

What do you love most about your hair?
I love the fact that my hair surprises me everyday. I think of a style in my head and lawd Jesus my hair comes through right in the crunch.

What has been the most memorable part of your journey?
When I pressed my hair in November and my hair didn’t curl back up completely.  I could have just died that day. I didn’t, though. I kept doing what I know I needed to and cut the straight pieces off. So essentially I have had 3 big chops because the same thing happened on August 2012 so I’m swearing off flat irons.

Has it been easy or difficult or both?
Hard, hard, hard!  Did I say it’s been hard?!

What are some of your favorite hairstyles?
I loved the up do’s with the braid hair, it saved my life. #nomotewatchingmyhairgrow

What have your experiences been as a ‘natural?’ Any memorable reactions from family or others?
My mommy says she loves it, my ex hated it said it was unattractive, my grandmother also loves it. So, the people that matter most love it so I’m happy and even if they didn’t, I would still love it and push forward.

What is your hair regimen (including fav products)?
Obianaturalhair hair custard, moisturizer and twist butter are my staples for all styles.

What are some of your favorite natural hair websites and blogs?
 Curlynikki and stealfeatherslaceelephant

Anything you want the readers to know? Inspirational words?
Stay focused on loving you enough. I decided that I was going to give being natural my all because I give everything else in my life that same tenacity.
