Michelle is Naturally Glam!

My name is Michelle and I’m the founder of www.happilyevernatural.com . I am 27 and from Chicago, IL. I have a Master’s Degree in Health Administration. I love everything about natural hair. I have a passion for helping others, which is why I created my blog. I got my hair relaxed at a very young age.

How long have you been natural?
I began my transition in 2009; I cut the remaining ends in August of 2011.

What motivated you to transition? Were you a transitioner or a Big Chopper& why?
I was a long term transitioner. 24 months to be exact! I knew that I wanted to go natural I just did not want to big chop. So I decided to grow my relaxer out. I didn’t even know I was “transitioning”, until I read up on my natural hair lingo! I applaud the ladies that big chop, and also transition, they are both lots of work!

How would you describe your hair?
One side is really curly! The other is wavy! It’s weird but I love everything about my hair! I call her Me’Chellay.

What do you love most about your hair?
The best thing about being curly is loving the hair that comes out of your scalp. Natural hair is so versatile, you can do so much! I can be straight one day curly the next, or my favorite… Marley twist it out! Rock it! I love the natural hair community. I love helping other women and inspiring them and also being inspired by others! I think there is so much love in the natural hair community. So many women are willing to help and share information with one another and that is what’s important.

What has been the most memorable part of your journey? Has it been easy or difficult or both?!
The most memorable part of my journey was saying goodbye to the final relaxed ends. It felt wonderful! It has been a great journey, with both easy and difficult times.

What are some of your favorite hairstyles?
My favorite hairstyles are twist and curls and braid and curls. I also love my buns and Marley Twists!

What have your experiences been as a ‘natural?’ Any memorable reactions from family or others?
My family and friends were really supportive when I decided to go natural. My fiancé (boyfriend at the time) was going through his LOC journey at the same time. So I think that we had a certain type of bond. I have gotten several of my family members, coworkers, and friends to go natural. Everyone loved what I was doing with my hair and had so many questions. I decided to start a blog to help my friends and family who had questions about their hair!

What is your hair regimen (including fav products)?
My current hair routine is pretty simple and low-manipulation. I wash my hair bi-weekly with shampoo, and co-wash weekly. I then style my hair either in a twist and curl and bun my hair for the remainder of the week.
For shampoo, I am currently using Edenbodyworks JoJoba monoi shampoo.
To co-wash, I am currently using EdenBodyworks Coconut shea Co- Wash, * taps Mic…. THIS IS THE TRUTH* … drops mic and walks away!
My favorite styler is Qhemet Biologics Aethiopika Hydrate and Twist butter! Like foreal if they stop making that stuff I will cry daily and never leave my house! It’s GOLDEN! * Sings…. I’ve got a golden ticket….** I usually try to pineapple at night. Recently I discovered I can get 3rd day hair If I re-twist my hair in big twists!

What are some of your favorite natural hair websites, YouTuber’s, or blogs?
My favorite website is Curlynikki.com, Youtubers/IG: Taren916, NaturallyGG, veepeejay, Eclark6, Courtneynaturalhair, there are soooo many that is just a few!!

Anything you want the readers to know? Inspirational words?
I just want to say that your hair is your hair! Love it, embrace it! Learn what your hair likes, and dislikes. Everything is trial and error. It’s ok if that style you wanted didn’t turn out right the first time; keep trying you will get it with time! Live, Love Life!
