Myzha is Naturally Glamorous!

Hello loves!  My name is Myzha. I’m 22 from New Orleans, La currently finishing up my undergraduate degree in Kinesiology. My natural journey ironically began as a bet to see how long I could go without a perm. It wasn’t until I began doing my research on what exactly natural hair was that I began to take it seriously. Who knew that a bet could lead me to where I am now!

How long have you been natural?
Two years as of May 2013. I do not count my transitioning days as me being natural only because I feel as though me having permed ends did not count as me being natural.

What motivated you to transition? Were you a transitioner or a Big Chopper& why?
My transition was unintentional. It wasn’t until I became interested in one of my friend’s blogs that I began to take it seriously. I did my big chop randomly one day nine months into my transition. It wasnt untill I got the name and number of a natural hair salon in a city that I passed through on my way home from school that I decided to make my appointment it. I cut most of my hair off and started over (Yes my hair just grows extremely fast). I decided to big chop just because I wanted something new. I had always had long thick relaxed her so me doing the big chop was not because my hair was damaged. I wanted to see how it would be to live without hiding behind my hair. Doing the big chop gave me exactly what I was looking for.

What has been the most memorable part of your journey?Has it been easy or difficult or both?!
The most memorable part of my journey is meeting the people I have met. I’m not one of those people who dislike to talk about hair. I really and truly appreciate all of the people who follow me on Instagram or just give me compliments when they see me. I never in my life imagined that I’d be featured on a website just for my hair so this is a true honor. My journey has been both up and down. Like any normal person sometimes I love my hair and sometimes we just disagree but I learned to embrace it and take it for who it is.

What were some of your favorite transitioning hairstyles?
My favorite transitioning styles were Bantu Knots and roller sets. My current dos’ are twistouts and my high puff. I recently experimented with a perm rod set and I loved how it came out. Other styles I have tried have been extreme failures so I stick to what I know.

Any memorable reactions from family or others since going natural?
My reactions from my family and friends where the same. Nobody really cared for my hair when I first cut it because it was so drastic and uncharacteristic of myself. It wasn’t until it began to grow out that people started to like and accept my hair. Now everybody loves it.

What is your hair regimen (including fav products)?

After I cowash I deep condition with:

Anything you want the readers to know? Inspirational words?
I want the readers to know to be confident. If being natural taught me anything it taught me how to love myself for who I was. Embrace being natural. Going natural was one of the best things that could have happened to me. I learned who I was as a person and how I wanted people to view me. The best advice I can give anyone is be patience. We all have different hair textures so don’t be envious of other people’s textures. Love your hair and it will show love to you back. Find what is best for your hair and roll with it.
