Have you always been so confident and in love with your curls? What’s your hair story?

I have always had long straight hair all my life and I have been getting relaxers since I was about 8 years old. I didn’t even know I had curly hair to be confident in it. I stopped getting relaxers about 5 years ago just because my hair looked the same flat ironed either way, I didn’t stop getting relaxer to “go natural”. After I stopped getting relaxers my hair was curly in some places when wet, but not all over so that really confused me. After I did a lot of research on Youtube and the internet I discovered that I had severe heat damage which is why my hair didn’t curl up all over. A few months later (after a lot of thought) I decided to do the big chop to get rid of the heat damage and start all over. It was the best decision I ever made regarding my hair and I am so happy that I did it.

What is your hair regime (how often do you shampoo, condition, deep condition and with what products)?
I don’t have a strict regimen. I basically do to my hair what it needs. I try to deep condition my hair once a week and that’s one thing I really try to stick to with Aussie Moist 3 minute miracle. I probably shampoo about once a week as well with Aussie Moist shampoo. The other days I cowash which is probably 3x a week with Aussie Moist conditioner. I use coconut oil for moisture and for my wash and go I use let jam custard.

What is your de-tangling process?
I ONLY detangle when my hair is soaking wet in the shower when i am cowashing. I separate my hair into about four sections and apply conditioner and finger detangle to start and then I use my shower brush to detangle the rest of the way. I never detangle my hair when its dry. NEVER.

Do you put anything in your hair for styling (leave-in conditioner, gel etc)?
Staples: Let jam custard and fantasia ic gel for my wash and gos. I use eco styler to slick down my buns and when I’m doing twist outs I try a variety of defining creams like Shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie.

Now that you are relaxer free, how do you perceive others that still have relaxed hair?
I just feel like they don’t know the benefits of natural hair and they aren’t educated on it or they would go natural. I feel like natural hair just looks better on women and its more expressive, but I don’t look down on relaxed women. Natural girls just stand out more to me.

What is the worst mistake you have made with your hair?
Getting relaxers when I had the choice to get them. When I was younger I had no control, but thats all I knew. I thought I needed them because that’s what my family and society led me to believe. If i would have been natural the entire time, I feel like my hair would be at my goal length right now.

Who is your hair idol?
I am not sure of her name, but her youtube username is Naturalcurlz86.

Any words of wisdom that you would like to share with the masses about natural hair?
Just do what works for you and not anyone else also don’t expect your hair to grow or react to products like other peoples because you may become disappointed and/or discouraged.
