Name of Product in Review: Trader Joe’s Aloe Vera Gel

Product Description: It comes in a green bottle, and the product itself is clear, doesn’t leave your hands feeling sticky (which I love). Yes there are preservatives, but in very small amounts.

Product Ingredients: Water, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Butylene Glycol, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Tocophersolan, TEA-Carbomer, Methylparaben, Diazolidinyl Urea, DMDM Hydantoin, Trisodium, EDTA.

Fragrance: I wouldn’t say it has a strong fragrance really. You know how the best trait in some hair products is the smell? Well this has a fresh kind of smell, but it’s not strong enough to be a smelly good favorite.

Texture: It’s a gel, but it’s not very thick, it does hold some viscosity, but you can tell that the main ingredient is water, because the gel itself pretty much dissolves away.

Your experience: After I wash and condition my hair, I do a twist out. This is my go-to hair style since I just big chopped anywhere from a month to two months ago, and transitioned for 10 months.

While me hair is still wet from washing/conditioning, I dilute a little Jojoba oil, and Trader Joe’s Aloe Vera Gel into water. I then section my hair off, and twist about 4-5 twists in sections of 5. I spray my hair with the diluted oil/gel, and put coconut oil on my ends. Then I Hair Bean each section, and twist. At the end of each twist, I put a generous amount of Aloe Gel, and roll it around my thumb and index finger until a curl forms at the end. This usually keeps each twist together. When I untwist in the morning my hair usually has some curls clumped together inside each twist, AND, my hair does not have any flakes in it! THIS IS PROBABLY MY FAVORITE PART!!!

There are a lot of really nice hair products out there, and I love trying them out. But I have had bad experiences with Curling Creams, and Puddings. Between my hair flaking from certain products when it dries, and the fact that I can’t pin point exactly which products trigger my Eczema, I pretty much make my own hair adventures, lol! Trader Joe’s Aloe Vera Gel-

1) Gives me defined curly curls
2) Doesn’t flake when it dries
3) Works for my sensitive skin.

Would you recommend to a curlfriend: I think everyone could benefit from this product. Whether you’re trying to define a curl, keep your ends together, or just keep your edges right, every natural, even probably non-natural, EVERYONE, can find a use for this product.

How many curls overall (on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the kitties titties!): Hmmm, well minus my problem areas, which are on either side of the crown of my head, this product grabs every curl! And tries its best to make the problem areas curl as well. I would say out of 1-5, I give it a 3.8… I’m a difficult judge, lol!
