It seems like just about every month we are hearing about another celebrity woman buying a new business, launching a new website or clothing line, and partnering with mega brands. It’s the manifestation of today’s indie culture where freelancers and small businesses are becoming a significant part of the economy.

These famous ladies aren’t content with just relying on their day jobs to support themselves and their families–they want to expand into new arenas to be in control of their own financial futures.

Halle Berry, who recently purchased a lingerie company based in Paris, spoke to ABC News about what re-launching the company means to her. “Having a business like this, I can do more work at home, be with my family,” she said. “I have two little kids now. I can’t travel around the world and do a movie like I used to.”

The article also detailed how more and more celebrity women are taking on the role of business owner.

Age of Adaline star Blake Lively has expressed similar sentiments in the past, revealing that she started her lifestyle website Preserve as a passion but also to provide financial security for her new family without having to be at the mercy of Hollywood.  “It taps into so many of my own passions, but it also is a business that I can control,” she told Allure in the April 2015 issue. “If I can be successful at this, I have security for my family and my babies.”

There are many famous women who are running successful businesses.
