Who are we to question what you know about sex?

To be honest, our formative years of sex education were fueled by urban legends told on the schoolyard. Clearly, the worst reference point ever. But with age comes wisdom and the task of seeking credible information on all facets of life: especially sex.

With all that said, Meika Hollender is on a mission. The co-founder of Sustain, a brand grounded in the sexual well being of women, created the Get On Top movement to create a nationwide discussion around sex.

“I have personally faced the slut shaming that inherently takes place when women attach themselves to anything sexual, but what I’m advocating needs to be said,” Hollender says in a statement. “What most people don’t realize is that safe sex is smart. Safe sex is protecting our bodies from disease or infection or unplanned pregnancy at any age or stage of life.”

According to the Center for Disease Control, there are some 20 million new cases of STDs every year in the U.S., and about half of these are in people between the ages of 15 and 24. On top of that, 71 percent of women report feeling shy about purchasing protection— in fact, only 21 percent of sexually active single women ages 2044 are using condoms regularly.

Involved in this project are Miki Agrawal, Founder of Thinx Underwear; Jenne Lombardo, CoFounder of Milk Studios and Founder of MADE Fashion Week; Vanessa Packer, Founder of modelFIT; Piera Gelardi, Cofounder of Refinery29; Jillian Hendrix, DJ & Personality; Lauren Signer of Trash is for Tossers; Olivia Milch, director; Zohar Benjelloun, Global & Digital Marketing Manager; and Yomi Abiola, model and activist. The ladies all appear in a short campaign video together.

“Safe sex doesn’t just equal condoms, it’s a much broader conversation incorporating everything from the IUD to birth control to abstinence,” Hollender adds. “It’s about getting women to take control of their health and take matters into their own hands.”

In honor of Women’s Health Week, pelage to have safe sex by going here.
