Is There a Stussy x Yo! MTV Raps Collaboration on the Way?
If you grew up in the ’90s, you’re probably familiar with Stussy and Yo! MTV Raps. If you’ve got a bad memory, or weren’t around back then, here’s a quick info.
Stussy was a brand that launched in the ’80s and became a dominating force when the hip-hop community began rocking its merchandise in the early ’90s. The brand has also been embraced by surfers, skaters and pretty much every other subculture. It was just that awesome of a brand.
Around the same time, a game-changing show on MTV also dropped. On August 6, 1988, Yo! MTV Raps premiered on the station when it actually used to play music videos. The show was the first ever hip-hop program on MTV and contained music videos, interviews, live in-studio performances and comedy. The show’s title was shortened to Yo! in 1995 and ran until 1999. And, for most fans, we can all thank Yo! MTV Raps for introducing the world to rap and hip hop.
So, why are we bringing up all this ’90s nostalgia?
The Stussy Facebook page unveiled an interesting pic recently, which you probably saw at the top. No one knows what this is exactly about, but it’s safe to assume that we’re getting some sort of a Stussy and Yo! MTV Raps collaboration.
This just makes sense. There were probably no bigger influences in hip hop and streetwear than these two names from the ’90s. So, we can’t wait to see what’s in store when these icons unite.
Thankfully, we don’t have too long. An announcement is expected to drop on August 9.
