Single Mother of Four Gets Food Stamps Cut From $500 to $16

Hard-working North Carolina single mother of four, Sara Grier, recently had her food stamp money slashed to an absurdly low amount.  She was previously receiving over $500 a month in food stamps, but now will only receive $16 a month.  

“At this point I don’t know what we’re going to do,” WCGNC.com reports her saying after receiving a notice informing her of the monetary assistance cut.  Many individuals who receive help from the SNAP Program (Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program) have seen five percent cuts in their food stamp payments, but for some reason Sara suffered far greater than that.

Her 11-year-old daughter, India, remained positive about her family’s ability to make due with what they have.  

“Since this happened the amount of food we get has gone down, but we still get fed – and I’m happy for that.”
