Ethnic trends and styles are usually not welcomed with open arms in Hollywood, especially on the red carpet. Culturally focused styles unfortunately require a bit warming up before the public can accept them in all their glory. When Viola Davis took off her makeup and her wig on national television during an episode of “How To Get Away With Murder,” natural hair became the center of debate.

However, sometimes ethnic trends are worn out of context, which causes controversy around cultural appropriation. For example, when celebs flock to music festivals wearing Native American headdresses, or when Selena Gomez wore a Bindi as part of her performance costume.
