15 Examples That Show Relaxed Hair Can Grow

Through the natural hair movement, women across the globe are experiencing hair growth at lengths many have never seen themselves achieve in life. There’s even many who attribute going natural to accelerate hair growth and blamed relaxers on breakage and other hair woes. What might be closer to the truth is that in going natural, many were eliminating processes that were causing their hair to break which thwarted length retention. Relaxers don’t have to be the enemy of long, healthy hair if you choose to use them in your routine.

Now of course we’re not saying you should abandon your curls and kinks to go over to the creamy crack side. But if you already relax your hair, there’s no reason (medical issues aside of course) that you can’t grow your hair to new lengths. In fact we’ve found 15 examples that show that relaxed hair CAN grow.

But first here are some things those with very long relaxed hair often incorporate into their regimens:
* stretching relaxers (relaxing too often can break the hair so many stretch beyond the typical 6-8 weeks—many go as far as only relaxing 2-4 times a year)
* protective styles (keeping the hair away from the elements and busy hands helps to retain length—the less you touch it, the more it has a chance to avoid breakage)
* moisturizing often (deep conditioning every week or bi-weekly, keeping the ends especially moisturized since it’s the oldest hair on the head)
