After 27 years together, Tom Ford has officially married his partner, Richard Buckley. The American designer nonchalantly revealed the news while being interviewed by Kinvara Balfour for “Fashion in Conversation.”

“I lost so many friends in college – I would say more than half of my closest friends,” he said. “Richard, my partner of 27 years, had also gone through something also quite tough in his life. We are now married, which is nice. I know that was just made legal in the UK which is great; we were married in the States.”

Buckley, a former fashion editor for Scene met Ford at a fashion show in 1986– he was 38, Ford was 25. “He was adorable, and he was a complete fool,” Ford told Out magazine about one of their first encounters. “He was sort of dancing around, flashing his eyes at me, and trying so hard to be charming. I decided in that elevator ride that I was going to marry him. I’m very pragmatic, and I was, like, OK, there’s some kind of connection here.”

After battling Buckley’s cancer in the early 90s, the couple became stronger. They share an adopted son, Alexander John Buckley Ford. But the pair are not the only gay power couple the fashion world has seen. As we’re all well aware of, the fashion world is filled with those in the LGBT community, and a lot of those individuals have counterparts who are just as influential/successful.
