Ever wished real hard upon a star that a designer would make that perfect dress for you? Or bring back an icon from seasons past (like J. Crew just did with this swimsuit)? Well you can start thanking your lucky stars because Crowdemand is making that possibility an imminent reality.

Crowdemand is a new e-commerce site that just launched today; it offers up an entirely new way of shopping that lets customers directly voice their demands to fashion designers and participate in the production process in a way they’ve never before been able to do.

“This retail model is the future; it bridges the gap between consumer and designer, bringing unparalleled benefits to both parties which are unavailable within traditional retail models,” said Liat Cohen, VP of Business Development at Crowdemand via release.

That bridge looks like this: Crowdemand partners with contemporary fashion brands (first up: Cynthia Rowley) to feature a set selection of products that might become available. Users–called “crowders”–get to pre-order whichever specific styles they prefer, and those styles that reach a critical mass of orders will go into final production and actually get made. In a smart move, the Crowdemand model really encourages the crowders to share their choices across social media to increase the chances that the product they want will get enough orders.

There are three types of clothing that will be offered on the site from the design partners: styles spotted on celebs, popular designs from seasons passed, and new exclusives from coming seasons.

In our humble opinion this one of the most exciting fashion innovations we’ve seen in some time. Now, our wants and needs won’t just get lost in the Twitter ether, they’ll actually have a direct impact with designers we care about. Talk about exciting.

Check out Crowdemand here. The Cynthia Rowley sale will be up until April 15–you can pre-order the styles shown above–then it’s the NY-based designer Whit’s turn.
