The pajama trend might be the comfiest look for fall and the next season as designers like Rag & Bone and Michael Kors gave us silk satin nightgowns and matching beaded pants for their fall collections while Givenchy continued the look for Spring 2016 showing silk, satins and lace in an array of silhouettes. So we’ve rounded up the key pieces you need to pull off wearing pajamas and pajama-inspired pieces in public, and still look like you actually got dressed for the day.

Pajama dressing this fall incorporates the literal as well as pieces that suggest sleepwear, which opens up a world of far more wearable styling options. If a legit pajama set (like Selena Gomez above) is a bit much or maybe the opposite too undone, we suggest mix and matching the the top or bottom with other pieces. Mixing and matching the silky pieces with heavier closet staples like denim or suiting (i.e. Kendall Jenner’s recent airport style) will lend polish to your seemingly effortless look. When wearing both pieces as a set pull the look together with your best accessories.

As for lace, save the overtly sexy boudoir pieces for date night or cocktails with the girls. And cool things off for day by wearing lace in layers. For a more subtle take on the trend go for pieces that look like pajamas but aren’t like pin striped sets and floaty shirt dresses.
