Alicia Keys Stands Out As Stella McCartney Maracas Star

For her 2016 resort collection, Stella McCartney decided to take a healthy roster of celebrities and supermodels to the large Caribbean island known as Cuba– in theory. From having Fidel Castro and Che Guevara posing for selfies to merengue dancers gyrating in front of a live band, Stella McCartney’s resort presentation featured A-list talent and models in voluminous maxi dresses.

Resort presentations are happening in showrooms and indoor venues all over New York, which prompted the daughter of Beatles’ legend Paul McCartney to do something different. Setting her party amid the Elizabeth Street Garden in Little Italy, long a favorite location for the designer, Stella attracted such talent as Maggie Gyllenhaal, Liv Tyler, Cara Delevingne and Saturday Night Live‘s Aidy Bryant and Vanessa Bayer, as well as Alicia Keys to the mix.

Each person had a specific personal story on how they become acquainted with the popular designer. Gyllenhaal remembers meeting McCartney at London’s River Café, but even prior to that was her long-ago purchase of a sweater that she bought “when I had just made a little money for the first time.” She still has that outfit. The incomparable Alicia Keys, who was amidst the stilt-walkers in colorful costumes, showcased her little-known talent of being a great Maracas player.

“I’m part New Yorker,” Stella McCartney said to The Hollywood Reporter. “There are so many gems in little places to be discovered.” Meanwhile, Keys, a native New Yorker from Hell’s Kitchen, and a new second-time mother, stepped out black, cheetah-print ensemble that was ideal for the warm NYC weather. Taking a break from her motherly duties, the “Girl On Fire” singer sashayed looking gorgeous, as she showed off her post-baby bod six months after birthing baby Genesis.

The R&B singer-songwriter, in addition to being boss on the Maracas, has already been seen around the city, working on new music with her husband Swizz Beats. As she hammed it up with the A-listers amongst statues of muses and stone benches under trees, Keys will also be showcasing her New York State of Mind alongside Chris Rock and Lenny Kravitz as one of the new celebrity faces starring on the highly popular FOX series Empire. McCartney’s collection, which she said was all about “movement, fun, color, life,” featured the aforementioned maxi dresses in vibrant citrus hues of lemon yellow and orange.

Models showing off Stella’s ensembles also wore floral print looks, dresses with exaggerated wraps at the waist, and beautiful flowing dresses in coral, tangerine, and cream. The latter were the highlight as the models twirled around showing off the looks. As Cara Delevingne mingled with Liv Tyler, Miranda Kerr, and Amber Valletta — Alicia Keys continued to play with the Maracas and chat it up with fellow musician Maxwell.

All around it appeared to be a fun on top of fun event, whereas all the other resort presentations might have come up a bit stale in comparison.
