Double Take: What Did We Just See On Rick Owens’ Runway?

Rick Owens is known for his out-of-the-box approach when it comes to fashion shows, so we thought nothing could surprise us.

At Paris Fashion Week, the designer proved us wrong.

In what is being described as “human knapsacks,” models carried models down the runway at PFW Spring 2016. Models walked with other models strapped to their backs, and in some cases to the front of their chests. The unluckiest of the models had fellow models’ private parts just inches from their face as they attempted to make their way down the runway while keeping a serious face. The acrobatic runway is being compared to everything from a statement necklace to conjoined twins.

According to representatives of Owens, who left right after the show and didn’t answer questions, the human baggage was meant to represent, “”women supporting women.”

We’re sorry but there are better ways to endorse women supporting women than literally strapping a model to another model in what looks like the 69 position (we know you were thinking it too). In what we can also describe as a tandem skydive gone wrong, Owens is clearly compensating for less than impressive clothing with his latest runway gimmick.

In the past Owens’ runways have included full-frontal male nudity, in what we dubbed a “ballsy” move, he has also given us an ode to Star Wars and a full-blown step show, which was one of his best fashion moments ever. Earlier this summer, Owens even  punched one of his male models for making a personal statement against the German Chancellor Angela Markel. However, nothing compares to what we just witnessed today.

And social media agrees, with plenty of editors and fashion lovers finding the meaning behind the bizarre runway show they just witnessed.
