Ellie Goulding Shares Makeup-Free Selfie, Slams Social-Media Haters

We love when fearless stars go sans makeup on social media (really, check out this gallery). But Ellie Goulding’s latest bare-faced snap prompted some harsh comments on her feeds, which the singer promptly addressed head-on.

Last week, the 28-year-old British star was busy collaborating with Diplo in the studio, and she posted a kissy-face selfie to celebrate her “makeup and alcohol-free week,” showing off her natural complexion and freckles.

The photo prompted backlash, with some commenters saying that Goulding looked unrecognizable and others harshly labeling the snapshot “ugly.”

In response, Goulding took to Twitter to defend herself like a boss. “I’ll keep posting makeup-free photos sorry haters,” she Tweeted. And she urged them to stop following her page. “And also if you follow me on Instagram just to make weird comments like ‘put some makeup on’ please unfollow because that’s not really my vibe,” she concluded.

The next day she followed up with a Tweet urging fans to post their own makeup-free selfies (silly faces accepted!). They followed her lead and posted their best snaps, which she re-Tweeted and thanked them for.

Stars are starting to become vocal with shutting down negative comments via their social-media channels. Last month, Pink slammed anyone who critiqued her weight, saying, “I’m not a person that will stand by watching other people bullied.” And Kelly Clarkson shut down body-shaming Tweets in April, explaining, “It’s like, you’re just who you are. We are who we are. Whatever size, and it doesn’t meant that we’re gonna be that forever.”
