Erin Andrews’ DWTS Photo Diary: I Knew My Sexy Dress Was a Hit When Nick Carter Gave It Some Love!

In PeopleStyle’s new installment of our Dancing with the Stars style blog, we’re catching up with co-host Erin Andrews this season to talk all things hair, makeup and gorgeous gowns. This week, Andrews tells us why she went with such an edgy dress (as always, credit goes to ’90s hip-hop) and exactly how her glam squad created her “sexy and disheveled” hair and makeup.

The co-host chose a long-sleeve heather gray Oglia-Loro gown featuring multiple slashed cutouts and accessorized it with Casa Reale earrings, Dana Rebecca and Effy rings and Christian Louboutin pumps. And for the star who once said she’s “used to wearing flats and boots, not gowns” it was really pushing her outfit of her element but she’s “so glad” she did it. “I loved this look because I’ve been wanting to try a fresh and edgy look, and I thought this really captured it,” she explains.

Though choosing such a sexy number did come with its own drawbacks.  “Where do we put the mics and wires when you have no back to the dress? It took a good 15 minutes to figure out how to put this puzzle together,” she tells PeopleStyle.

Despite the potential for technical difficulties, it took a quick ’90s hip-hop dance party to convince Andrews this was the dress. “You know I always am happy with the look when I start dancing around in it,” she says. “And let’s be honest, when Nick Carter gave my dress some love during our interview on the show, this Backstreet Boys fan gave Alyssa a high five!”

The Alyssa in question is stylist Alyssa Greene, who says she really just wanted Andrews to be able to show off her “smokin. hot. bod.” Can you blame her? “Girlfriend works hard for it and should show it off sometime!” Greene tells PeopleStyle. “It’s a really special couture piece that has so many elements: gorgeous from the back and the front. The high neck and long sleeves make you think conservative but the slashes of skin and open back give it a sexy edge.”

And of course, Andrew’s glam squad wanted to match the sexiness of the dress in her beauty looks. Hairstylist Daniel Howell says he went for “edgy, disheveled and sexy” with her side-swept tousled waves. And to toe the fine the line between “disheveled” and “just a mess — which is not flattering,” he relied on Bumble and Bumble Style Spray for a base before styling and afterward, applied Aerogel Hairspray to give it hold, then finished with a tiny bit of Aveda Anti-Humectant Pomade on the ends to cut down on split ends.

Makeup artist Lisa Ashley had her own Andrews-related issues to contend with — namely, competing with sports on TV. “The most challenging thing is doing her eyeliner while she is trying to watch a hockey or football game!” she shares. To get her glowy look, she used Nars the Multiple cream bronzer, Lisa Ashley Ultimate Moisturizer and La Mer Body Crème. Andrews’s reaction to her super-sexy look? “She was beyond excited!”
