A Reminder That Looking #Flawless Has Nothing To Do With Makeup

Beauty vloggers are among the most exposed people in new media. As purveyors of the latest hair and makeup trends, achieving a certain level of popularity makes it incredibly easy for online bullies to flood a comments section with hurtful comments.

Of course, when a “no makeup” look requires ample makeup and contouring can completely alter your face, those who are critical of cosmetics feel as though they’re being deceived. Regardless of the objections, sitting behind a computer and dishing abuse is inexcusable because no one’s perfect.

Thankfully, bloggers are taking back their power by igniting movements that don’t set boundaries on what is or isn’t “beautiful.” Last week, the #PowerOfMakeup movement invaded Instagram and now, another familiar face is putting her skin issues in the spotlight to prove an important point.

Em Ford of My Pale Skin is renowned for her killer makeup tutorials, but up until about three months ago, hardly anyone knew that she suffered from severe adult acne. After over 100,000 comments were posted to her account, Ford put together a powerful visual that juxtaposes what people say about her impressive blemish-free look as opposed to au naturale shots.

Unsurprisingly (because, humanity), the latter is accompanied by commentary as nasty as, “ugly as f-ck,” “has she ever washed her face?” and the video title, “you look disgusting.” Despicable.

Although many would say Ford’s makeup-less face is the most admirable factor in this video, we have to disagree. It would take a gargantuan amount of self-control for us to not post the usernames behind those rude remarks. In fact, we know plenty of people who would have taken it a step further by finding their personal pages and doing the same in return.

This beauty maven for be commended for keeping it sassy, but classy in the name of true beauty. Watch her viral clip, which is well over 8 million views, above.
