How Amy Purdy Chose Her ‘Angelic’ Wedding Dress (EXCLUSIVE PHOTOS)

Some brides spend weeks — if not months — picking out their wedding dress, but not Amy Purdy.

“I gave myself one day to find the one, and we did,” Purdy, 35, tells PEOPLE exclusively. And as the photos below prove, she did a really, really good job.

When looking for the perfect dress wear to her “outdoorsy” wedding to longtime boyfriend Daniel Gale, Purdy says she was looking for something “simple.”

“I am not the kind of girl who wanted this big, poofy, stiff thing,” she shares, adding that she was searching for something she “could move in that was comfortable and light.”

Purdy says she went to Kleinfeld Bridal in New York City, where she fell in love with a Pnina Tornai dress with a nude base covered by Chantilly lace.

“I almost want to say it’s angelic,” the Dancing with the Stars runner-up — who, after a battle with bacterial meningitis, now has two prosthetic legs — says of the dress. “It’s beautiful. It’s very unique. It’s very delicate.”

The dress also included two elements the self-described “non-traditional bride” never thought she’d wear on her wedding day: a veil and a train.

“It’s amazing,” says Purdy, who also wore Neil Lane jewelry and custom-made Seychelles shoes with her and Gale’s names etched inside. “You go in thinking you know what you want, but you kind of just have to go put it on. When it feels right, it feels right — and this dress did.”
