HUM Hair Challenge: How I Plan To Grow My Hair For My Wedding

In about three months, I’ll be walking down the aisle. Yes, I’m freaking out. And while some get stressed about table seating, family drama (valid) and money (very valid), there’s one thing I have little control over.

My hair.

My plight is the same as many other naturalistas. I cut off the perm six years ago, went through an awkward stage, got a texturizer, cut it off again, another awkward stage, texturizer and finally for a solid year have been growing it out. Why? Because in my tumultuous relationship with my kinky curls, I always saw myself sporting a full head of them down the aisle.

During the winter I took solace in braids and twists, that sustained the length by avoiding cold exposure. But about two months ago, I unleashed my curls, happy to discover about an inch of length. Yet in my paranoid mind, I was still concerned about growth.

And then all of a sudden it hit me.

I’m very familiar with the California-based company, HUM Nutrition, after success last summer when I tried their Runway Ready packets. So, I went back to the source for the challenge. I’m planning to do a month of Runway Ready (for hair and nails with biotin) and then two and a half months of Red Carpet (specifically for skin and hair, no biotin). But first, I chatted with HUM Nutrition CEO and Co-Founder Walter Faulstroh about my personal challenge and the magic in the supplements.

On their most popular supplements and what are women in general try to achieve by using HUM: “HUM is all about beauty starting from within and in our case through nutritional supplements that make you look and feel great. The typical HUM consumer understands the connection between nutrition, health and beauty and sees HUM as great investment in her beauty future. While results take 4-6 weeks to really show, they are longer lasting and sustainable.”

On the most popular supplements: “Our most popular formulations are Runway Ready (delivering glowing skin + longer stronger hair and nails), Daily Cleanse (for a complete body and skin detox) and Flatter Me (our digestive enzyme for a flatter stomach). Other popular formulas include Cleanse to the Rescue, Gut Instinct (our probiotic), Skinny Bird and Arctic Repair. We also offer solutions for better sleep, stress and energy since all three are directly linked to your beauty.”

On the natural effects of biotin and how are they incorporated into Runway Ready pills:Runway Ready has a triple approach to longer stronger hair. The Black Currant seed oil contains GLA and ALA, healthy fats that keep your hair follicles moist and health, while the sunflower seed oil provides Vitamin E for healthier looking hair. Biotin is a key building block for stronger hair, which we added in a highly potent vegan formula.”

On if women can ever have too much biotin and if so, the effects: “Biotin is a water soluble vitamin and excess Biotin is flushed out from the body without causing unwanted side effects. We have found 5000 mcg to be the most effective amount, which is why we included that amount in our Runway Ready formula.”
