Icons Channel Icons For ‘Harper’s Bazaar’ September Issue

The September issue is the most important issue in the fashion world.

It sets the trends, predicts the next famous face and lays down the foundation for the coming year in style and culture. However, Harper’s Bazaar not only looked to the future in their September issue, but also embraced the past.

In a fusion of Hollywood legends past and present, modern day stars such as Katy Perry, Oprah Winfrey and Mariah Carey channeled their favorite and most inspirational icons from pop culture. In ‘Icons by Carine Roitfeld’ 17 pages are dedicated to transforming modern icons into their iconic inspirations. Shot by photographer Jean Paul-Goude, Hollywood meets Hollywood in a costume party we wish we were invited to.

Some went the historical route and choose Joan of Arc or Marie Antoinette, while others stayed in the film lane and went with famous characters and starlets. Others went mythical and chose goddesses.

Perry was transformed into a Warhol-esque Elizabeth Taylor, and she revealed she loved the Hollywood icon because she was, “so fabulous and decadent and had a style that evolved with the years…and I’m sure I’ll be married just as many times!” Winfrey put on the tiara and pink ballgown of Glinda The Good Witch from “The Wizard of OZ” because she is “is a spiritual goddess.” 

Dakota Johnson, Willow Smith and Lucky Blue Smith are also in the mix for a photo shoot that is not only appealing to the eye, but captures the essence of the September issue: aspiration.
