Is Kendall Jenner Really The New Cindy Crawford?

When it comes to the world of modeling, most comparisons to the supermodels of the ’90s are sacrilegious.

The one-named wonders, Naomi, Cindy, Claudia, Kate and Linda, are irreplaceable, but according to Balmain designer Olivier Rousteing, his muse Kendall Jenner is all that and more. The new face of his Balmain x H&M collection, Rousteing spoke about his decision to have Jenner front his campaign with Yahoo Style.

“She is an icon,” Rousteing said. “For me she is the new Naomi, Claudia, Cindy. You know the type of models where people want to be her. Finally we are going back to top models and are making dream girls.”

While there is no denying Jenner’s influence when it comes to runways and social media, it might be too early for Rousteing to compare the rookie model to the best in the business, even if Cindy Crawford is a little bit jealous of her.

Also, considering that Naomi, Kate and Linda are still fronting campaigns of their own more than 20 years after their debut speaks volumes.

To see Rousteing’s muse in action, you can watch the launch of the Balmain x H&M collection dance party on Periscope on Oct. 20, and see her learn to twerk to Michael Jackson. She will be joined by the “squad” and “new generation of top models,” which will include Jourdan Dunn and Gigi Hadid.
