Lilly Pulitzer Under Fire For Fat-Shaming Artwork

A well-known fashion brand has immediately come under fire by the industry, as it has been revealed that Lilly Pulitzer’s headquarters featured some fat-shaming cartoons.

New York Magazine recently published a photo tour of company on Tuesday, which featured showing off the office’s bright color schemes, tropical and irie vibes, and well-dressed employees. The artwork immediately caught flak on Twitter and Instagram, as the Palm Beach-inspired apparel company featured the fat-shaming pieces tacked to a wall inside the company’s main office outside Philadelphia.

Dubbed “The Pink Palace,” the hard-to-miss illustrations were claimed to be the work of one individual who is employed by Lilly Pulitzer. Spokeswoman Jane Schoenborn tried to clarify the situation in a statement, saying, “While we are an employer that does encourage people to decorate their own space, we are a female-dominated company and these images do not reflect our values. We apologize for any harm this may have caused.”

The fat-shaming artwork, which you can see above, features cartoons of women with some pretty bad text, including “Just another day of fat, white, and hideous…you should probably just kill yourself,” and “Put it down, carb face.”

The employee was not pictured in the story and refused to comment direct on the artwork. Nonetheless, the online community is not happy about what transpired, as users on Twitter have called the fat-shaming cartoons “hateful” and attacked the company for creating a culture where displaying these kinds of drawings might be accepted.

“You’ve kissed a client base goodbye,” posted a Twitter user.
