Look of the Week: Allison William’s Topknot Is Perfect for Getting All Bundled Up

We’re constantly updating our Last Night’s Look gallery with all the best red-carpet moments (gorgeous dresses! dazzling accessories! sky-high heels!). Now, let’s talk beauty. Each week, we’ll be highlighting one of the most gorgeous makeup and/or hair moments, along with details on how to recreate the look — straight from the makeup artist or hairstylist — in our feature, Look of the Week.

Now that temps are starting to drop, it’s time to start thinking about cold-weather hair and how to style your strands under cozy knit hats and scarves. And luckily for us, Allison Williams served up a chic, scarf-friendly style you can easily replicate at home before bundling up in your coziest accessory. Celebrity hair stylist Bryce Scarlett, who created the slicked-back style on the Girls star for the N.Y.C. premiere of The One, tells exactly how to get the look, below.

“I chose this look because of her beautiful dress by Monse,” says Scarlett. “There was so much interest in the top that I didn’t want the hair to compete.”

To get the “clean, fresh and easy” look, the hair pro began by misting Williams’ hair with water and Oribe Après Beach Wave and Shine Spray to create a wet, almost-oily appearance.

“I felt that hair high on the head with a greased texture would offer a very clean appearance,” he says. “I also took into account that it was raining, and this look would hold up well.”

He then brushed all of the star’s hair back with a boar-bristle brush (we like this one) into a sky-high ponytail, taming all flyaways in the process.

Once Wiliiams’ hair was all brushed together into a ponytail, Scarlett secured the style with a Hair Bungee and then twisted the star’s remaining hair into a twisted topknot.

After pinning in a few bobby pins to hold the knot in place, Scarlett pulled out a few pieces to create a loose, not-too-polished look. And with a finishing mist of the Oribe spray for hold, the look was complete!

And because it only took the pro 15 minutes to do, Scarlett says it’s the perfect look to for readers to test out on their own.

“I think this is definitely a look someone can recreate very easily at home,” he tells PeopleStyle. “If you can put your hair in a tight, high ponytail, you can do this!”

You heard the man! Give it a shot and let us know how it goes!
