Photo: WENNPhillip Plein puts on a show! It’s what he’s known for at Milan Fashion Week, an event he’s sort of elbowed his way into, initially on his own dime. And so this season’s showing definitely did not disappoint. Besides bikers whipping perilously close to each other in a cage sphere, the show featured an exploding car, a performing Tyga, a monster truck and the designer himself taking his finale bow on the back of a motorcycle, tearing down the runway. A show indeed.

The aesthetic of the show spoke to a sort of hip-rock according to Plein himself. That culture is a product of rappers looking back to rock stars and embodying their lifestyles with the ripped jeans, studded leather jackets and everything else it entailed. It’s a nice thought and though calling it a “culture might be a bit of a stretch” it’s definitely a look. This luxe sportswear we’ve come familiar with in the last few season came down in black, red and white with leather paneled and studded arms and few rips in shirts and pants.

It’s definitely a look but it feels remarkably like now or like what we’ve been seeing for the past few years with minimal tweaks. One has to wonder how well it’ll do on the storeroom floor.
