One Wedding Day, Three Outfits: Pierre Casiraghi’s Bride Beatrice Borromeo Pulls Multiple Wardrobe Changes for Monaco Royal Nuptials

Choosing one wedding dress is hard. It’s even harder, we imagine, when paparazzi are waiting to photograph you after you walk down the aisle. So that’s probably why Beatrice Borromeo dazzled in three different looks for her Saturday wedding to Monaco’s Pierre Casiraghi.

For her noon civil ceremony held in the Palace’s Salon de Glaces, the bride wore a pale pink Valentino Haute Couture creation, designed by the fashion house’s creative team. Sixty-six invitees were arranged in rowed seats around the seated couple including Prince Albert, the groom’s mother Princess Caroline (who held 2-year-old grandson Sacha Casiraghi in her lap), Andrea and Tatiana Casiraghi (who kept 3-month-old daughter India close) and Princess Stephanie.

The bride’s wedding party included Beatrice’s three sisters — the Countesses Isabella, Matilde and Lavinia, whose husband John Elkann, the chairman of Fiat-Chrysler, sat directly behind the bride’s father.

Also in attendence, members of the Casiraghi family from Italy, the groom’s sister Charlotte (who held her son, Raphael throughout the ceremony), comedian Gad Emaleh, and the groom’s step-brother, Prince Ernst-Augustus of Hanover. Seated directly behind the couple, were two witnesses each — Borromeo’s friends Caterina Priolo and Beatrice Busnelli and two of Casiraghi’s sailing crewmates, Frederic Schroeder and Marcus Franck.

“It was a very relaxed ceremony, a very relaxed day,” a source tells PEOPLE. “There’s always a little nervousness when it’s a wedding but it was all very well handled. They were truly a beautiful couple.”

Following the service, the bride and groom stood for several balcony portraits including one “everyone in” group shot before joining their 500 guests at an ‘informal’ garden party with a ‘native costume’ theme.

Amid a profusion of red and white Monégasque outfits, the bride and groom fit right in.

Perhaps taking her inspiration from a local dance troupe which performed in front of the Cathedral during the May 10 christenings of Monaco’s twins, Borromeo came into the garden party dressed as a “palladienne Monaco” wearing the traditional red and white striped skirt, fitted black vest and a ruffled white embroidered blouse while the groom, sporting a beret “came as a local 19th-century fisherman,” according to one attendee.

There were also contingents of Bavarian costumes, Basque cowboys, and folkloric outfits representing Nice and the Lombardy region. The party went the afternoon. With church bells ringing out over the principality, according to the newspaper Monaco Matin, at 3:36 p.m. to celebrate the couple.

Guests enjoyed carnival attractions in the Palace’s cliff-top gardens which sprawl some 6,000 square meters. “There was outdoor music, a band and dancing,” says one official, “but it wasn’t loud. There were no complaints from the neighbors.”

The source added, “Actually the neighbors are another country. Everyone seemed to have had a good time.”.

Beatrice, however, saved the best for last.

By 8 p.m., the willowy bride had changed into a floor-length white evening gown with silver embellishments for a dinner hosted by her mother-in-law Princess Caroline at Monaco’s exclusive, five-star Hôtel de Paris.

The evening gown, also by Valentino, has a full skirt of layered tulle and a design of silver clouds. Sophisticated and deceptively demure with a racer front, the backless gown hit so many fashion marks for the evening, it seemed princess perfect.
