Orange Is the New Black: See the Cast Then and Now!

As you already know (because you were up all night bingeing), Orange Is the New Black was released ahead of schedule on Thursday night, and it’s better than ever. The show seems like it’s been on our Netflix forever, but in reality, it only launched two summers ago — it’s just that a lot has happened for its stars since. So in honor of your weekend lost to OITNB, we looked back at the stars’ style then and now.

Taylor Schilling was best known for being Zac Efron’s love interest in The Lucky One when she was cast as Piper Chapman in the edgy prison dramedy. And in 2013, she was styled accordingly: Sweet, feminine, demure. Fast-forward two years, and Schilling is one of the breakout style stars of the group, cutting her hair into a chic bob and choosing sleeker, sexier pieces (like the cutout Cushnie et Ochs sheath she wore to last night’s “Orangecon”).

Laura Prepon was only meant to have a minor part, but viewers loved her character’s push-pull relationship with Piper so much, she keeps coming back. And while she had long been associated with her super-fiery red hair, at this point, we’re so used to the jet-black Alex do, we hardly blink when she dyes it for filming anymore. Her style, on the other hand, continues to surprise us.

Laverne Cox has had the most whirlwind two years of all the stars, parlaying her touching role as transgender inmate Sophia Burset into covers on Entertainment Weekly, Essence and Time, as well as becoming a de facto spokesperson for the movement, bringing attention to the challenges transgender people face. But for us, the most fun part has been watching her style transform from pageant-y and glitzy to chic and sleek — with plenty of empowering moments and killer wigs along the way.
