Rihanna’s trademark makeup looks: tutorials

The Barbadian popstar is revealed the cover star for Vogue Brasil’s latest issue, which hit newsstands Monday. RiRi was shot by Peruvian photographer Mariano Vivanco in a look that features some of her key beauty features (bold smoky eyes, strong colored lips and messy short hair). We examine how to recreate some of her trademark looks.

Michelle Phan sees Rihanna as the ultimate chameleon. Here she shows off her attempt at a “bad girl” look. Start by filling in brows to frame the eyes, then use colored contact lenses. Neutral colored eyeshadows go around the eye along with black liquid eyeliner. Curl and apply mascara to eyelashes. Use contouring on the nose and the cheekbones to intensify the angles of your face and finish with a dark lipstick shade. Feel free to go heavy with the bold metallic accessories.

Pixiwoo has a go at the singer’s look as the face of her own cosmetics line with MAC. Start by using face and body foundation (pick one to match your skin tone), then apply bronze eye pigment before applying brown eyeliner, eyebrow pencil and a dark liquid eyeliner. Highlighting on the face sharpens up the features. Apply a currant-colored lip liner all over the lips, soften it down with a brush, then go around the edge of the lip with concealer and an angle brush to redefine the edges. Finally use a dark red apple color on the lips to finish.

MsRoshPosh shows you how to replicate Rihanna’s bright red lip from the 2013 Grammy’s, one of her classic red carpet looks. Start by using a loose pigment to highlight the brow and eyelid, and contrast it with a darker eyeshadow. Blend out the harsh lines for a smoky effect, line your waterline with eyeliner pencil, then create a winged shape using a brush. Mascara gets applied on the top and bottom lashes, with a pair of falsies over the top. Then use bronzer on the hollows and apples of cheeks, as well as forehead and jawline to define the face. Finish by lining and filling lips with a cherry pencil, then layer with matte red lipstick.
