Kelly Osbourne is a fashion maverick!

If there wasn’t enough proof in her red carpet decisions, the celeb was given an award in April at the American Image Awards to vouch for it! Even Taylor Swift recorded a video that was played at the ceremony to declare just how much of a maverick her friend was.

Well tonight, Osbourne will take up the role as host talking to quite a few fashion mavericks on the CFDA Awards red carpet. Though she’ll be talking to the likes of Kim Kardashian, Public School’s Maxwell Osbourne and Dao-Yi Chow as well as Pharrell Williams, we decided to flash back to that AIA ceremony to an exclusive conversation we had with her.

Read on to see how she chose her look for the night, her lingering thoughts on her Fashion Police exit and what’s next for her fashion brand!

On choosing her look for the 37th Annual AAFA American Image Awards: “Literally I got sent a million dresses but it was a weird time. What baffled me was that most designers sent their gowns for girls to wear at Coachella so it was a bit of a fight. At one point I was like, ‘Is it going to be my people calling to get a dress? If that’s the case I’ll just go out and buy one.’ But we finally found this in the bottom of one of the garment bags and I was like ‘that’s it! I don’t even want to wear a dress.’ So, that’s how we chose it. Honestly, I feel much more comfortable than if I were in a dress!”

On having a designer’s eye: “It’s a completely different way of thinking when it’s designing versus dressing. When I dress I dress for myself, when I design, I design for other people. I mean the way I dress is selfish, the way I design is not selfish.”

On getting the Fashion Maverick award: “I think being overly opinionated and sticking to my guns is why [I’m getting the award]. It’s weird when you get an award for being yourself, it’s just something I can’t get my head around! I don’t quite feel that I’m deserving of it because I mean I can’t quite be anyone else — I tried and it didn’t work. So it’s my thing.”

On “Fashion Police” and sticking to her guns: “It wasn’t so much sticking to my guns, it was more so the straw that broke the camel’s back. I mean I loved every minute that I ever had working with Joan Rivers and Cathy and George. It was an incredible experience that I wouldn’t give back for anything. But whether that [scene with Giuliana] happened or not, it really would have been my last year anyway.”

On her clothing line and working with HSN: “Well I don’t work with HSN anymore, I found that it wasn’t quite my format. It was a great experience though.”

On what’s next for her: “I can’t tell! I’d get in trouble and I really want to tell because it’s so big and so exciting. My whole mission for my line is I want to make fashion fair: you should be able to tell your own story by how you dress and put things together. It’s a very independent and personal process. So that’s why we go from size 0 to 24 and if we can figure out a way to go larger, we will. We also don’t change the price from a size 0 to 24 because that’s disrespectful. Because of that, certain things have been harder for me. For example, I’ve stopped going to brick-and-mortar period because they separate the sizes. After a certain size they put it in the ‘Big & Tall’ section and I’m trying to take that shame out of fashion and I’m trying to make it fair. So if they don’t want to present the line in the way that I wanted presented, they don’t get it.”

On how she tells her own story in the way she dresses: “Well I mean, the best example I can give you is when I first dyed my hair. People went insane five years ago, when I dyed my hair this color, I got called the c-word, I got told to kill myself, I got called a granny. I’ve been called every person who has been famous and had a blue rinse in their life, I’ve been called. I was really annihilated in the press but I loved my hair so I never changed it!”
