Should Twenty Somethings Take Beauty Advice From A Teenager?

It’s been a wild year for Kylie Jenner. We’ve watched the 17 year old buy a $2 million home, design several capsule collections (Topshop, PacSun) and withstand the world’s commentary on her father’s transition to Caitlyn Jenner. Oh, and there’s the whole maybe yes/maybe no relationship with Tyga (insert side eye). Nonetheless, it seems most of us were concerned with none of those things.

After watching her famous pout go from small and thin to plumped and juicy, everyone wanted to know if the reality star had gone under the knife to enhance her face; a questionable move when you haven’t even graduated high school. Kylie–who has no doubt been raised to have tough skin in the public eye–finally fessed up to temporary fillers during a recent episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

Despite the negative connotation associated with cosmetic surgery, gals around the world are still desperate to copy Kylie’s intricate lip lining routine. In true Kardashian/Jenner fashion; she’s a step ahead and cashing in. On Monday (July 6), Kylie previewed a “bright look” from her upcoming website, which will undoubtedly tap into her most prized beauty secrets and makeup artist-assisted tutorials.

Additionally, MTV News recently uncovered a trademark request for “Kylie’s Lip Kit…For The Perfect Pout,” which means lip selfies may be a thing before the end of 2015. God, help us all.

None of this news is surprising, but the one question I keep asking myself is, “should I be taking beauty advice from a teenager?” Although Kylie looks significantly older than 17, I am still a grown woman who doesn’t necessarily need red carpet level makeup to feel beautiful.

It also brings to mind the millions of teenagers who will probably copy these looks. As someone with a 15 year old niece, I don’t know how to feel about her piling on foundation and eyeliner to garner Instagram likes. Yes, not every celebrity is looking to be a role model, but when you invite the world into your living room, what else do you expect to happen?

To the contrary, those Kardashians always have amazing lashes and perfectly crafted brows, so who wouldn’t want the insider’s scoop? I may have to stick with my go-to vloggers for now, but it’ll certainly be interesting to see how the next phase of Kylie’s burgeoning empire plays out.

Ladies, can you handle all of this Kardashian/Jenner advice coming your way?
