Today, May 12, is a special day for techies and digital mavens as it marks the beginning of a three-day fashion week in Silicon Valley.

Yes, the cybernetic playground that gave birth to Mark Zuckerberg and Tristan Walker, becomes the fashion epicenter for those looking to hop out of their hoodie into something more comfortable. According to KQED Arts, Chris Lindland, the CEO of Betabrand, meshed technological wonder with fashionable aplomb in an attempt to convince software engineers to strut their stuff on the runway.

“It’s coming up with a big idea that’s like, ‘Oh god, that would be either brilliant or a gigantic failure,’ and the going for it,” Lindland said. The fashion week, which takes place May 12-14 at the Chapel in San Francisco, features three full nights of tech-centric style. GenZe, the night’s first sponsored company, will encourage geeks and creators to focus on “Electric Motion,” which includes electric skateboards, scooters, and other commuting-themed products.

The second night, sponsored by PHC, will be dedicated to “Tech Wearables,” which is a growing trend inside and outside of the tech world.

The third and final night will be supported by Chris Lindland and his Betabrand company, and will celebrated “Funded Fashion,” which celebrates a parade of outfits created through crowdfunding. While fashion standouts like Tom Ford or Oscar de la Renta won’t be on the electronic runway, companies like Misfit Wearables, 3M, and Pebble will participate alongside local designers who are helping to create drones and robots to model their creations.

The show will also include talks from the designers themselves.

The Silicon Valley Fashion Week isn’t without its own detractors, as the fashion press has weighed in negatively about the event. Most notedly, GQ, compared the drones to modeling what a flying shoe rack would look like. “Seriously, tech bros. Stay in your lane, we’ll stay in ours. Silicon Valley Fashion Week? Please, don’t ask,” the publication wrote.

Betabrand, which finely straddles the line between tech and fashion, gained notoriety for its viral breakouts like the one-piece Suitsy, its work yoga pants, and poop emoji shirts. CEO and Founder Chris Lindland came up with the idea for the tech-catwalk after seeing the crazy outfits his employees came up with for Burning Man.

On the following pages, we take a look at the most fashionable members of the tech society that you may or may not know.
