We are truly living in a new age and time, as technology continues to merge itself with fashion. In a new report from WWD, search engine juggernaut Google has partnered with Levis to create something unique and exciting for fashion lovers.

Called Project Jacquard, the initiative features Levis jeans being used by Google to not only look fashionable, but also to alert wearers of weight gain and interact with smartphones nearby. This latest endeavor to join the growing wearable technology trend marks an interesting shift for the American denim label.

Levis and Google have patented fabric with smart technology that can be woven into garments. While both companies are mum on the details on its make and what exactly it will do, the thinking is that the move can be a bit terrifying. Think about it like this: You can be tracked by the geolocation of your jeans or worst, hackers could break into your pants and cause them to fall down.

This is what happens when our minds wonder.

“This isn’t a launch, it’s a platforming opportunity,” Paul Dillinger, vice president of innovation for the Levi’s brand, told WWD. “It becomes a home to new forms and applications we haven’t thought of yet. The potential is that the input is the gesture — crossing your legs, swiping, saving, lifting.”

Watch the breakdown of the project in this video below:

Software development company FocusMotion and its founder, Grant Hughes, explains that the new sensors within the jeans will “be so thin that wearers won’t feel them.” In addition to the wearer being alerted about any possible weight gain, another scary inclusion is that the jeans could even recommend “a workout or provide a discount at a gym or yoga class.” While it may be cool to think that your outfit could help you to live a healthier life, it seems that it could also cause a bit of self-esteem issues to have the jeans you’ve bought and paid for essentially calling you “fat” or out of shape.

The Jacquard-woven clothes will even be able to interact with nearby tech devices such as iPhones or wi-fi connections. Google’s developers are working with a Japanese firm to create conductive fibers and woven them into any textile — and surprisingly, the Jacquard thread works on all existing sewing machinery.

“The challenge of creating Jacquard yarn was to create yarn that is highly conductive and at the same time scalable, which means it could be used on the industrial weaving machines everywhere in the world,” Ivan Poupyrev, Project Jacquard founder and technical program lead at Google’s ATAP, said.

Pretty controversial, you think?! Would you wear jeans that told you about yourself and could control your devices? Speak on it below!
