Step Aside, Coconut: Marula Oil Is On The Rise

However, its fifteen minutes of fame may be up, thanks to another member of the oil family. Native to Southern African countries, the marula tree has been used for sustenance, cooking and beauty purposes for hundreds of years.

Oil extracted from the inside of a marula fruit is rich in antioxidants and fatty acids, which prevent dry skin, wrinkles and early aging when used regularly. Unlike argan and other oil treatments for the hair and skin, marula has a thinner molecular build, but still packs the same amount of hydration.

This means that those with oily skin can still slather on marula before bed without it clogging the pores. Although it’s fairly expensive in its purest form ($78 at Sephora), we have a feeling beauty brands will soon catch onto the craze with more affordable products that contain the vitamin-rich essential.

In the meantime, keep reading to shop products that already contain marula oil.
