Twitter ‘Lights Up’ Drake And His Wimbledon Fashion Choice

Serena Williams, the preeminent royal of Wimbledon, won her sixth title becoming the second major American female sports win of last week. While most fans were cherishing the moment with jubilee and exaltation, there were some eagle-eyed folk who were drawn to a peculiar figure watching the historic event from the stands.

Drake, the Canadian pop sensation signed to Young Money Records, was unexpectedly in attendance, cheering Serena on, wearing zip cardigan draped and tied much like Carlton Banks over his shoulders. Now, this isn’t the first time that Twitter has made Drake the butt of jokes for the whole world to laugh at. Last year in April, when the Toronto Raptors named the Degrassi star its global ambassador, the Internets almost burned down in flame after witnessing Drake lint-rolling his pants while sitting court side.

This time, the laughter was so widespread and pegged to his outfit at the Wimbledon tennis final, that many even flogged UK publication The Guardian for dubbing the rapper “fashion’s latest alt darling”. Whether or not this move was a respectful gesture to the legend-charting success of Serena Williams and the style heritage of tennis courts and country clubs, or if Drake is continuing to poke fun at himself like he did in his latest video — “Energy” — Drake remains a lightning rod for jokes and commentary alike.

This Wimbledon incident has quickly gone viral on social media, as Twitter was ready, able, and willing to excoriate Drake for his recent fashion choices.
