Not too long ago I attended the COAST boutique trade show where I stumbled upon up & coming designer Jamie McCarty and her lineup of punch drunk prints and richly toned gender-bending shapes. Drawn like a moth to the flame to her collection that looked straight out of the coolest girl on the LES’s wardrobe – Jamie coolly showed me her stuff while I fan girled all over it.
After graduation, the Parson’s alumnus took her design skills to Badgley Mischka and Doo.Ri where she sharpened her tools of the trade through internships and eventually went on to launch her first women’s collection in 2014. Her Fall/Winter 2014 collection is a blend of minimalist silhouettes and exuberant fabrics that are perfect for the girl who wants getting dressed to be effortless without losing her fun and eclectic side. I spoke to Jamie about how she got her start, the role hip hop has played in her designing, and what the young designer will be up to next.
