Barbie Has a New Designer Shoe Collaboration (and the Coolest Sneaker Selection Ever)

So, you already know that Barbie is giving her heels a rest and finally shopping in the non-sky-high shoe department (it only took 50 years!). But you also knew that Barbie wasn’t going to make her first foray into flats in a boring pair of black ballerinas.

So “she” reached out to the shoe designer who essentially creates fabulously whimsical Barbie shoes for real women, Sophia Webster, to create some new looks for her expanding closet. But the really cool thing about the collaboration (besides getting adding new duds to your Barbie Dreamhouse) is that you can actually shop the shoes for yourself!

Webster’s first round of flats for the iconic doll includes a choice of a sandal or two sneaker options (one including an adorable “B” logo slip-on!). And because Barbie isn’t ever going to retire her heels entirely, she tapped Webster for a pair of the designer’s popular butterfly-adorned “Chiara” style (center photo), as well as two other pairs of candy-colored pumps.

In addition to the six pairs available for adults, there are also three coordinating styles in children’s sizes (which we may not be able to resist buying for all the little ladies in our lives).

“Creating a shoe collection for Barbie has always been my dream project, but getting to be a part of her embracing flats for the first time made it extra exciting, and deeply personal,” Webster said in a press release. “I love that this concept strikes a balance between dreams and reality — the idea of getting Barbie in some hi-tops and setting her loose in East London instantly appealed.”

And since just designing Barbie’s new kicks wasn’t enough, Webster also worked on a limited-edition doll. It comes in a specially designed box and features Barbie wearing (and posing with) the Riko hi-top glitter sneakers, paired with equally adorable accessories, like a custom message clutch and oversize bow on her top knot.

The collection is launching exclusively in Selfridges London on Aug. 27 and will be available at both SophiaWebster.com and Selfridges.com.
