Here’s Gerard Butler in a Fitted Tux (Swoon) to Kick Off Your Holiday Season

Gerard Butler‘s holiday shopping style might sound familiar — the actor tells PEOPLE he buys all of his presents at the last minute.

The 46-year-old London Has Fallen actor spends the holidays in the Highlands of Scotland, where he grew up — and his mom still helps him wrap his presents.

“[Buying presents is] normally a last-minute dash, I often find myself at my mother’s house with her helping me wrap the last of the presents,” he tells PEOPLE. “Every year I say next year, I’m going to start earlier, but it never happens.”

Butler, who became the face of Hugo Boss Fragrance last year and looks like a total smokeshow in new tux-wearing photos for the brand, shares that he finds gifting fragrance an exciting task.

“I’m often given it myself and I often give it to other people,” he says. “You can actually really tailor a fragrance to a person. Half the excitement is, did you get it right? It’s such a personal thing and you know that if you get it right it’s going to be on them, it’s going to be part of them for a while. I think you have an emotional response to fragrances.”

His favorite scent? Boss Bottled, of course.

“I really love the fragrance,” he says. “You know, in simple terms, I really enjoy the smell and I can wear it for anything.”

But as far as Christmas scents go, all he has to step outside at home in Scotland to feel the cheer.

“When you’re outside and it’s really fresh up in the Highlands and it’s snowing and it’s really cold,” he shares. “That’s the smell that reminds me of Christmas — because the time that I’m always home in the winter is at Christmas, so that feels very Christmasy.”

And as soon as he’s home with his family, Butler’s just a normal guy who loves the holidays.

“It’s quite traditional; the whole family gets together,” he says. “There’s normally about 12 to 15 of us and we have a big Christmas dinner at my mother’s house, so everyone comes up to the Highlands of Scotland. It’s my favorite part of the year; it’s the time that the whole clan come together. You celebrate each other, and you catch up on everything.”

Butler is also traditional in the sense that he always makes New Year’s resolutions, but he also has a hard time keeping them

“I do make New Year’s resolutions and it’s such a great time to make them, coming into the New Year with a new energy and a new beginning,” he shares. “I can’t say I stick to all of them, but I do try and think of them on a daily basis.”
